Delicious Sauce Recipe
If you made shredded chicken burritos you know they taste even better if you add some sauce. To balance the chicken you can add a creamy sauce.
This is that kind of recipe because it is creamy and spicy and it lifts the whole recipe. Besides maybe a breakfast burrito you can put it on your favorite burrito.
You can add the sauce while you compile the burrito or use the sauce as a dip. Obviously, you can do both and dip any which way you like.
You can also use it as a dipping sauce for your soft tacos or enchiladas.

What Do You Put In Burrito Sauce?
To make this sauce you need something creamy and something spicy so make certain you put the following ingredients on your grocery shopping list:
- Chipotle in Adobo
- Sour Cream
- Greek Yogurt
- Oregano (dried)
- Cumin Powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Lime juice (optional)
By using sour cream and Greek yogurt you get a low-calorie sauce that fits perfectly in a low carb or keto diet.
If you want even fewer carbs (0.2 gram) you can substitute the sour cream and yogurt for mayonnaise.
How To Make Burrito Sauce
To make this recipe take your blender or kitchen machine. You can make it by hand but then you will get a more rustic type of sauce.
It is almost impossible to mince the chipotle with a knife as small in comparison to a kitchen machine.
First, put the sour cream in the blender and add the greek yogurt. Then put the minced chipotle and adobo sauce to the blender.
Finally, add the oregano and cumin. Turn the blender on and pulse to combine. Taste the sauce and season with salt and pepper.
If you like a fresh sauce add a teaspoon of lime juice to the sauce. Your burrito sauce is ready to serve e.g. with this shredded chicken burrito recipe.
How To Store Burrito Sauce
The best way to store burrito sauce is in the refrigerator. Store it in an airtight container or a glass jar. You can keep it fresh in the fridge for up to 5 days.
It is not recommended to freeze this sauce as it contains sour cream which separates when it is frozen.
When the sauce thaws it has the same consistency as cottage cheese, which is not what you are looking for in a sauce.
Can Use Mayo In Burrito Sauce?
Yes, you can make this burrito sauce recipe with mayonnaise. Substitute the sour cream and Greek yogurt for mayonnaise.
If that is too much mayonnaise you can elect to substitute only the sour cream or Greek yogurt. Both sour cream or Greek yogurt adds a fresh taste to your sauce.

November 20, 2020 at 5:39 pmYour Chipotle in Adobo sauce doesn’t say 1/2 what. Can you clarify that. Also if the Chipotle is in Adobo Sauce, are you still using additional adobo sauce?
Jo
November 20, 2020 at 5:42 pmActually I may understand it now – you are using a half of a chipotle and 2 tsp of the adobo sauce in the Chipotle in Adobo Sauce container…..correct?
